Lil’ SAS vs. AIDS

So in 2006, some friends and I heckled Stephen A. Smith at the NBA Draft and videotaped it. And then in 2007, we did something similar. We got some nice press and an odd cult following in certain corners of the Internet as the Stephen A. Smith Heckling Society of Gentlemen. Our lives were complete–or should’ve been. But something was missing.

Then, we figured it out. We want to channel our strange social capital into some sort of social good. That social good? Assisting the battle against AIDS in Africa, where the situation is dire indeed.

Here, then, is our plan:

We’ve set up the above donation drive at www.changingthepresent.org. If you can donate $20 to the African Medical and Research Foundation (they attack a wealth of health problems in Africa, including AIDS–read more about their work here) on the SASHSG’s behalf, we’d be very grateful. If you can donate $5 or $1, we would still be very grateful. It would show that you liked our movies, and it would also show that you don’t like the AIDS epidemic. If this drive exceeds $1,000, we will reward all who donated by unleashing upon the public a new video of outtakes from the draft and director commentary. If everyone who’s seen the videos so far–and that’s over 300,000 hits total–if everyone donated just a dollar, we’d be the most accomplished fundraisers we’ve ever met, and we’ll have done it by simply making a sock irritate Joakim Noah.

This isn’t a joke. This isn’t a scam. No money passes through our hands, but we do get to keep watch on how much has been donated in total. We would really, really love to at least meet our basic goal here. Please give something, and QUITE FRANKLY, thanks!
